This is so cool looking, those swirls look like they required a lot of patience. I've been thinking on giving wood carving a shot for a while. What tools did you use for this? is birch wood difficult to work with?

ultra-shenanigans responds:

Thanks, glad you like it. The swirls were easier than they look, I could cut most of them out using a simple coping saw.
Do give it a try if wood carving sounds interesting. You don't need many tools, a couple of chisels( probably a flat one and a rounded one) and a utility knife is good enough to start. Birch is medium hardness from what i can tell and it's pretty nice to work with but something like simple pine should work quite well too. It's very easy to find and quite soft. Definitely don't use oak or something similar to start, it just requires so much patience when using hand tools.
I also used a pull knife( that things great for roughing out the shape), an electric drill to speed up making holes for eyes and such and some sandpaper and wood glue, but that's pretty much it.

Very lively and filled with personality, i like these guys. Also how do you do that thing with the captions lol

chipollo responds:

thank you!! i'm glad you like them!

as for the captions, when you upload images three dots on the top right corner appear. if you click that and click options with the cog icon it'll give you the option to write a caption :o]

Woah, is this really digital? I love the effect of overlapping marker strokes, if that's what those lines are.

87octane responds:

they mimic real marker so well!! the overlap and everything! got em from dendril on etsy!

THANK YOUU, looks awesome! getting jolly with it

Taurmega responds:

Really cool designs. Especially fond of Kankor.
I know you probably put the wrong file, but i laughed out loud when i saw Grimo's twin was the exact same drawing again.

KEINGARRISON responds:

thank god I fixed it, but is still really funny lmao

this is insane for 5 hours, you certainainly have your priorities in order when painting. good job (thumbs up emoji)

Eriyal responds:

Thank you so much and your comment nailed it when it comes to speedpainting! I’ve figured out recently that being fast doesn’t mean you have fast brush strokes, it means you finally figured out what are the shortcuts to making something work!
I still quite a journey ahead when it comes to figuring this stuff out, but I’m happy with the progress thus far.
And thanks again!

pretty clean linework and decent shading. leaving a review mostly because it bugs me that the bat is not resting on the shoulder as that pose usually needs it to be. keep it up 👍

FennicVox responds:

Yeeeah- it was late at night when I made this and I just wanted to finish it lmao. Thank you!

ermm, unrealistic much? clouds are supposed to be INFRONT of the sun, dumbo. if there were clouds in outer space they would freeze and disipate due to the VACCUM :rolling_eyes_emoji:. taking half a point off for ur bad science

edit: i am so so sorry, i didn't know. my behaviour was unforgivable. please accept my most sincere apologies i didn't want to make your last days on this earth darker. i was a fool and i succumbed to namecalling just to make myself feel better. i just wanted to say im not normaly like this and am usually a really nice guy, maybe in the next life we'll be good friends

really like the brushwork on the hair and the enviroment. the centering seems a little off, even with the chain on the side and the sculpture in the background, since the (fire? glowing blood magic thing?) on the bottom takes the attention away from these enough for the balance of subjects to focus a lot more than normal on the lady on the front. very solid tho, nice.

Aromartic responds:

@BingoWaders Yo thanks for the straight up feedback and confirming some of my doubts about the choice of colors. I was unsure how red that thing needed to be, surely I should have make a lot of the red bounce on the character a lot more than it ended up doing. I had hoped the cool blues would balance it out in contrast.

yep, thats me. i bet you wonder how i got into this situation. well it all started when you know what i actually don't feel like telling you rn
